SmartCap was developed by the Cooperative Research Centre for Mining (CRCMining)
Research work was funded by the Australian Coal Association Research Program as well as Anglo American. The SmartCap algorithm developed by Dr. Daniel Bongers while a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, as part of CRCMining.
Development work has been ongoing since 2004. The SmartCap was first made commercially available through SmartCap Technologies (formerly EdanSafe) in 2013.
